तुम पटाखे ज़रूर जलाना
क्यूंकि बिना पटाखों के दिवाली का त्यौहार ही क्या
लक्ष्मी तो तुम्हारे ही घर आने हैं
और बिना पटाखों के शोर के वह वापिस अपनी नगरी लौट जाने हैं,
तो तुम पटाखे ज़रूर जलाना

जब जलाओ पटाखे, तो आँखे और मुँह एकदम खुले रखना,
जितना हो सके इस धुएं का उतना स्वाद चखना,
तब तक फोड़ना पटाखे जब तक फेफड़े खुद धुंआ न हो जाएँ,
ये तो हिंदुत्व का धुआँ है, और बहुत पवित्र है, अब ये कोई किसी को कैसे समझाए
तो तुम पटाखे ज़रूर जलाना

कोई साथ न दे तुम्हारा, तो ट्विटर पर एक दो राजनीतिक साथियों को टैग कर देना,
हैश टैग में भी कुछ ट्रेंडिंग शब्द भर देना
फिर देखो वो कैसे पटाखों को धर्म के नाम से जोड़कर, तुम्हारी नैया पार लगाएंगें
हर बार की तरह दिवाली इस बार भी बिना पटाखों के ना मनाएंगे।
तो तुम पटाखे ज़रूर जलाना

even though it would mean ruining myself,
I want you to be standing right there, all the time
Stand there, right there, where I can see you,
Do not flicker, I beg of you
that makes my heart sink into my stomach,
my hands shiver,
I lose track of time,
and I struggle to break free
from this vicious circle of day and night,
seconds after seconds slapping me on my face
hours after hours following the same pace.
Do not flicker,
They may find another you, and brighten their lives
for them it’ll be all the same, they wouldn’t even notice
But for me, time would stop right there.
